Education costs money. There is no getting around it. If a child wants to progress past basic schooling, then they (or their family) often need to pay for higher learning.
At the WCO we believe that every child should have the opportunity to move onto advanced education, in order to learn the skills that will help them to improve their lives.
That’s why the WCO offers scholarships to children who are eager to further their education but due to circumstances out with their control don’t have the money or resources to do so.
A scholarship is an amount of money granted by an organization to a student for tuition and other educational expenses.
At the WCO, this amount depends on each child’s individual circumstances, and the amount of money that is currently available in our funds. The more capital we raise the more children we can help towards further education. And the more educated children there are in deprived countries, the better the chances are for their overall living conditions to improve.
Education leads to better jobs, and better jobs lead to more money. This money can be used to buy food, medical supplies, and other basic necessities of clean and healthy living. The number of deaths by curable illnesses would also be halved, as people would be educated to know how to look after themselves properly.
Scholarships can be used to help to provide many things for children, including (but not limited to):
- School books
- School fees
- Uniforms
- School dinners/lunches
- Supplies, such as pencils, pens, calculators, etc
- Travelling expense
